The One Thing Your Dachshund Needs Most
Have you ever wondered what makes your Dachshund truly happy? Yummy dog treats, belly rubs, and cozy blankies are definitely a few of their favorite things, but there’s one thing that they need more than anything else.
In this post, I’ll share the one thing your Dachshund needs most.
Special Time is Essential
Every Friday for the past several months, I have been setting aside special time out of my day for my Dachshunds – Eko and Gretta.
I do one-on-one training sessions with them to sharpen their command skills. Our favorites are sit, stay, and touch.
I also clean their teeth with their favorite poultry-flavored toothpaste (they beg for it!), and I usually wrap it all up with a few minutes of combing their fur with a soft-bristled dog brush.
Despite how busy things are day in and day out, setting time aside for our Dachshunds is not only essential for their overall happiness and health but also for strengthening our bond.

The One Thing Your Dachshund Needs Most
So, the ONE thing that your Dachshund needs most…it’s time with you! And trust me, you need this too.
Whether it’s one-on-one command training, daily walkies around the block, or routine cuddles at TV time, it’s important to make special time for just you and your Dachshund.

The Impact of Dedicated Time
If you set aside some time just for you and your pup, you will notice a big difference in your Dachshund’s behavior.
When Dachshunds receive lots of love and attention, their troublemaking tendencies go down dramatically. Believe me!

Time is Limited
Even when your Dachshund shows their spiteful side, ‘accidentally’ shreds your favorite pair of shoes, or leaves an extra stinky surprise on your bedroom floor, time is precious and it’s limited.
Cherish each and every day with your Dachshund, it goes by in a flash.
I know this may seem so simple and probably a little sappy, but honestly, you won’t regret any extra time you personally dedicate to your little long dog, I promise.
Personal Reflections
I have always felt that our little companions deserve so much in return for the love and dedication they give us unconditionally. There’s a reason behind my dedicated doxie time at this stage of my life.
In the past, I was closely bonded with my mini dapple Dachshund, Reno. He was my best buddy for 14 years, and when it was his time to go, I was crushed. Fourteen years went by far too quick, and it was really hard to figure out the next steps without him by my side.
I know that dedicating even just a few extra special moments with my two mini rascals today is something I will never regret.
I truly believe that if you do the same, you’ll be so grateful that you did!
